In a sensational new development, Swarup Choudhury, who committed suicide at a lodge in Guwahati yesterday (Aug 27) while his wife Jaya’s body was found in the bed of the room they had checked in, had called his mother-in-law to inform her that he had killed his wife and will end his life.
The bodies of the couple were recovered from room number 101 of Star Lodge at Basistha Chariali after they had checked into the lodge on Sunday.

Incidentally, Swarup’s wife Jaya was suffering from cancer and had come to Guwahati for treatment. Swarup was staying in Guwahati and had asked her wife to the city after which they checked into the lodge.
The couple hailed from Bijni in Bongaigaon district.
Police suspect he took such a drastic step since he was economically weak and it was increasingly difficult for him to continue with his wife’s treatment.
