Even as the flood situation in Kerala continues to improve, many people are still stranded at various places amid continued efforts by teams to rescue them. Many people from Assam and the rest of the Northeastern States are also stranded at various places in Kerala, waiting for help and hoping that the situation improves in the next couple of days.
As rescue and relief operations continue, four women from Assam who had gone to Kerala to take part in a handloom and handicrafts fair and stranded at Chengannur town in Alappuzha district since August 9 were finally rescued and are being flown to Guwahati. Their return journey was possible after News Live’s Political Editor Chayamoni Bhuyan, who is reporting from ground zero, met them and established communications with the Assam chief minister’s office for their return.

It was after News Live’s ‘Mission Rescue’ to help stranded people from the region return home that the Assam Government arranged the return journey of the four women who were first brought to Thiruvananthapuram and will soon be flown in to Guwahati.
On the other hand, around 50-odd people from Assam — including students and people working in the flood-hit state — who are stranded in Kochi and other places have also contacted their family members and with the chief minister’s office in Guwahati through News Live’s Political Editor Chayamoni Bhuyan. They have been kept at a relief camp in Kochi’s University of Fisheries and Ocean Studies.
The Assam Government has also opened helpline numbers for those affected by the Kerala floods. People from Assam stranded in Kerala can dial the following numbers for assistance.

The Cochin International Airport, meanwhile, will reopen on August 26 after 12 days of closure following the devastating deluge.
