Kaziranga declared No Parking Zone

GUWAHATI: Keeping in mind the protection of wildlife in Kaziranga National Park, the Golaghat district administration has declared the park area as a No Parking zone. Following a directive of National Green Tribunal, the district administration has prohibited parking of all types of vehicles on the NH 37 in Kaziranga National Park.

“The stretch from Bagori to Borjuri of Bokakhat has been declared as No Parking Zone. We have come to implement the order,” said an officer of district transport department.

A team comprising Golaghat district administration, police and transport department officials kept watch today in the area to ensure that no vehicles were parked in-front of the hotels and dhabas across National Highway 37.

“Parking of heavy good vehicles on the National Highway in the area of Kaziranga was creating hindrance to the movement of wild animals. It has become a barrier. On the other hand, washing of vehicles, waste oil were deteriorating the environment and creating hazards for the animals. Therefore, the Green Tribunal has issued the directive for the greater interests of the wildlife in the park,” said an official.

Meanwhile, many shopkeepers of the area expressed their concerns over the possible implications on their business because of the order.

“Our business depends on the heavy good vehicles. If they don’t stop here, our business will be severely affected,” said an owner of a roadside dhaba.
