‘Kanoon Andha Nahi Hai’, says Shweta Agarwal’s family after conviction

PUBLISHED:

The family members of Shweta Agarwal say the judgement made by the Guwahati Sessions Court has reposed their faith on the judiciary. The Guwahati court had this morning convicted Govind Singhal, his mother Kamla Devi and sister Bhawani in the murder of Shweta Agarwal, whose body was recovered inside their residence at Santipur in Bharalumukh, Guwahati, on Dec 4, 2017.

The quantum of punishment, the court stated, will be pronounced tomorrow (July 31).

“Kanoon Andha Nahi Hai… The conviction by court has reposed our faith on law. We thank the police, court and even media persons for the verdict. We have got justice, our Shweta has got justice,” Shweta’s uncle told News Live.

Shweta’s father said after the verdict that he hopes the court will award death sentence to the trio, claiming that a stringent punishment will act as a deterent in future.

“I am very happy with the judgement of the Guwahati Sessions Court. I hope they will be given capital punishment. My daughter is no more but a stringent punishment will deter people from commiting such crimes,” Shweta’s father said.

Incidentally, the partially burnt body of Shweta, then a B. Com student of KC Das Commerce College, was recovered from Govind Singhal’s house on Dec 4, 2017.

Shweta, who was reportedly in a relationship with Govind, had died after he slit her throat following an altercation. Govind, his mother and sister then set fire to Shweta’s body in an attempt to make it appear as a suicide.

Shweta had been a very brilliant student and had topped the Higher Secondary examinations in Commerce stream in 2015.
