Kamrup Metro: Wearing helmets made compulsory for both riders, Rs. 1000 fine

GUWAHATI: The Kamrup District Transport Department has issued new rules for two-wheelers in the city. With the new rules coming into play, both the rider and the pillion will have to wear helmets. Failing to abide by the rule will result in cancellation of the driver’s licence and a fine of Rs. 1000 will be imposed.

According to the Kamrup Metro Transport Department, city bus owners will have to pay road tax by 31 December failing which they will have to pay a penalty.

The Kamrup Transport Department officials have started an awareness campaign in the city where they interacted with bus operators and commuters and informed them of the new rules.

“Keeping the safety of riders in mind we have made wearing of helmets compulsory for both the riders. We request riders to follow the rules and stay safe. There will be a fine of Rs. 1000 and the licence of the driver will be cancelled” said District Transport Officer Gautam Das.

The DTO requested the public to be cautious during the winter season as fog related accidents increase during this time. DTO Gautam Das further requested drivers not to drink alcohol, or use mobile phones while driving.
