Mangaldai Police on Wednesday arrested one person, said to be one of the main accused, in connection with the mob attack on a youth at Kalaigaon in Darang district. The arrested person has been identified as Pankaj Hazarika who was seen in the video that has now gone viral in the internet punching, slapping and kicking the victim.

Significantly, the incident comes days after the horrific Dokmoka lynching incident where a savage and murderous mob lynched Abhijeet Nath and Nilotpal Das, two youths of Guwahati who had gone to enjoy the calm and serenity of the Karbi hills, at Panjuri village in Dokmoka, Karbi Anglong, on the night of June 8.

Bijay Rai, the victim hailing from Gauripur in Assam’s Dhubri district, was assaulted by a mob that objected to him meeting a local girl.
“I kept pleading to the group of people not to assault me. But nobody cared to listen to my cries,” the victim told News Live.

Police, meanwhile, said they have identified a couple of more people who were behind the assault on the youth.
