Three persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of bank official Junu Sharma by Kamrup Police. A woman, said to be an accomplice in the sensational murder, is among the arrested trio; the other two being contract killers.
Kamrup SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta said the two men arrested by police today (Nov 23) were directly involved in the murder while the woman, said to be in her twenties, was also involved in the murder planning.

The arrested men have been identified as Arup Das alias Bikram, a surrendered ULFA militant who had laid down arms in 2017, and Ajanta Kalita. Police said Arup had kept a 9mm pistol with him even after surrendering and had used it in killing Junu Sharma, the then deputy branch manager of SBI Dadara branch, was shot dead by the two assailants at Agyathuri on the outskirts of Guwahati on Oct 9.
“While Arup shot Junu Sharma from point blank range, Ajanta was driving the motorcycle. The lady who has been arrested by police along with the duo was involved in the planning of the murder,” Kamrup SP Partha Sarathi Mahanta told News Live.
Incidentally, Junu Sharma was shot dead from point-blank range while she was returning home from office on the evening of Oct 9 near Agyathuri. Two bullets had pierced her neck through the rear window. Although she was rushed to the Narayana Hrudayalaya hospital at Amingoan in a critical condition, she succumbed to her injuries.
Pranab Kalita, the driver of her car who escaped unhurt, was detained for question and later arrested for being complicit to the crime.
