GUWAHATI: Jorhat District Sessions Judge Court on Monday pronounced verdict on the lynching case of Dr. Deben Dutta. Court convicted 25 persons out of the 31 accused for killing the doctor at a tea garden at Teok in upper Assam’s Jorhat district. Six accused have been declared innocent.
The quantum of punishment for the convicts will be announced on October 19.
On August 31, 2019, the 72-year-old doctor was lynched by a mob of tea garden workers at the hospital. The lynching of the senior doctor sparked outrage and medical fraternity staged protests across the country.
