Jiten Dutta arrested, remanded to judicial custody

A day after pro-talks ULFA leader Mrinal Hazarika was arrested for allegedly making controversial statements in connection with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, and the subsequent killing of five people at Dhola in Tinsukia district, Jiten Dutta, who was detailed by Gaurisagar Police and brought to Guwahati, has also been arrested. The pro-talks ULFA leader was produced in court today (Nov 3) and was remanded to 14-day judicial custody.

Incidentally, an FIR was registered at Bijni police station after a complaint was lodged against Mrinal Hazarika and Jiten Dutta by the All BTC Bengali Youth Students’ Federation alleging that the duo had made provocative speeches inciting hatred during a meeting at Geetanagar in Guwahati on October 24.

The case was transferred to Geetanagar Police Station and Dutta was booked under sections 153, 153 A of the IPC.

Meanwhile, pro-talks ULFA leader Anup Chetia expressed unhappiness over the arrests and questioned as to why the government had not arrested Shiladitya Dev saying that he was also making provocative statements over the citizenship bill and the NRC update issue.
