Guwahati: Preparations are in full swing at Jerenga Pathar, Sivasagar where on 23 January, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold the first major public rally in Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. PM Modi will also be distributing one lakh land patta (rights) to landless people during the public meet.
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders are regularly visiting the site and taking stock of the preparations there. Speaking to News Live, BJP Rajya Sabha MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa said, “The preparations are in full swing for the event that will be attended by PM Modi. I am happy that the government has kept its promises to safeguard jati, mati, bheti, (community, land and base) and under that promise, PM Modi would be distributing one lakh land patta (rights) to landless indigenous people on 23 January in Sivasagar. We are expecting more than 2 lakh people to join the rally and we have taken all the necessary initiative to accommodate all the people. People from Upper Assam are likely to join the rally in more numbers. We have prepared two pandals so that all the people can be accommodated”.
BJP leader Krishnamoni Chutia said, “We are trying our best to make the rally a grand success. People from all over the state are excited and waiting to join the rally here in Jerengapathar. People are willing to travel by their own as we are not able to provide sufficient vehicles for transportation. And this urge of people coming to the rally will definitely make it successful one”.
