GUWAHATI, Jan 26: Italian World No. 1 Jannik Sinner clinched his second consecutive Australian Open title on Sunday, defeating World No. 2 Alexander Zverev of Germany in straight sets 6-3, 7-6(4), 6-3 in Melbourne.

Sinner thus joined legends Andre Agassi, Roger Federer, and Novak Djokovic to win back-to-back Australian Open titles in the 21st century.

“It’s an incredible tournament for me, I hope I can keep it going,” Sinner said, after becoming the first Italian tennis player to win three major titles.

For Zverev, today’s loss was his third in grand slam finals after he ended on the losing end at the 2020 US Open and 2024 French Open men’s singles finals.
