GUWAHATI, Jan 10: Luminaries from the Assamese entertainment industry have condoled the demise of music director, composer and sound engineer Bhupen Uzir, terming his demise ‘extremely saddening’ and ‘a void that would be hard to fill’.

Uzir breathed his last at Nemcare Hospitals in Guwahati on Tuesday. He was 70 and leaves behind his wife and acclaimed singer Santa Uzir and two daughters.

The famed musician was admitted to the hospital on January 6 and was being treated at the hospital.

“It’s a massive loss for the Assamese entertainment industry and for me personally. Bhupen Uzir Da was involved in my last movie and we shared a very close relationship. We have lost a guardian figure,” actor-filmmaker Jatin Bora told News Live.

“You are here, with me. Always. Love you Bhupen Da,” hearthrob singer and music composer Zubeen Garg wrote on social media.

Born in Jorhat on April 5, 1953, Bhupen Uzir composed musical tracks for a number of films as music director besides being associated with many others, mostly as a sound engineer.

He left his job at the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to launch his own studio, AUDITEC, at Geetanagar in Guwahati.

He scored the music for movies like ‘Pratidan’, ‘Debi’, ‘Pita Putra’, ‘Jiwan Surabhi’, ‘Joubone Amoni Kore’, among others.

His last rites will be performed at the Nabagraha crematorioum at 2 pm today.
