IPL experience has been great: Riyan Parag

PUBLISHED:

Assam cricketer Riyan Parag says the experience of playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL) has been a great one and he has learnt a lot from the tournament. Riyan, son of former Assam Ranji opener Parag Das and international swimmer Mithu Baruah, had etched his name in IPL record books by becoming the youngest player to score a fifty in the history of the cash-rich tournament besides earning plaudits for his performances with the bat.

“It was a great experience for me; to share the dressing room with players whom I had only seen on TV. I have learnt a lot from them,” Riyan said after arriving in Guwahati.

“Whatever I have performed it’s all because of the support and guidance I had from them. They are very open and would guide us youngsters on and off the field,” he added.

But why did he use a ‘Gamusa’ on the pitch while playing in the IPL? The answer to the question, Riyan says, was because he wanted to showcase our ‘Gamusa’ in an international stage.

“I wanted to take our ‘Gamusa’ to a bigger and international stage. The IPL is watched around the world and therefore I thought why not use the platform to show our ‘Gamusa’ to the world,” Riyan said.

He also spoke on his association with cricket greats like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Steve Smith, Rohit Sharma etc. He also said he is hopeful of donning the Indian jersey in future but wants to concentrate on the domestic circuit now.
