GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday joined a yoga session at NHPC campus at Geruamukh in Dhemaji.
In a series of Tweets, the Chief Minister said,” On #InternationalYogaDay joined a yoga session along with Hon Ministers and MLAs at the serene campus of NHPC at Gerukamukh in Dhemaji today. Amid the Covid pandemic, #yoga, which is India’s invaluable contribution to the world, boosts immunity, energy and positivity. 1/4.”
“We’re grateful to Hon PM Sri @narendramodi for taking the message of Yoga to the world. Yoga should become integral to our daily lives. Along with ensuring good health, it helps us attain good mental health as well. It gives us peace & contributes to making of a good society,” Dr. Sarma Tweeted.
“Youth should embrace yoga and reap its benefits. Some of our youth, who are under bad influence of drugs, should also embrace yoga. Under Assam Yoga Prakalpa, yoga centres have been established in development blocks all over the state,” the Chief Minister further Tweeted.

It is to be mentioned that in 2014, Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed marking a day as the International Day of Yoga in his address at the UN General Assembly, and the proposal was endorsed by 175 member states, post which the United Nations recognised June 21 as the day to celebrate Yoga.
