Inference is that Rakibul Hussain won from Samaguri in past 25 years distributing beef, CM Sarma on beef hullabaloo

GUWAHATI, Dec 6: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today threw the gauntlet at Dhubri Congress MP Rakibul Hussain over the “beef distribution” issue saying that the hullabaloo created by the former Samaguri MLA indirectly suggests that he was winning from the constituency distributing beef among Muslim voters.

“The Muslim community consumes beef and that’s nothing new. What’s new is that we have banned consumption of beef in public places. Regarding his allegation of beef being served to Muslims of Samaguri ahead of the elections, it’s not possible for me to find out whether it’s true or false. But what his allegations points to is that he and his father had been winning elections from Samaguri in the past 25 years by distributing beef to the people,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma said in New Delhi today morning.

Chief Minister Sarma also spoke about tomorrow’s cabinet reshuffle and said that four MLAs — four-term Dibrugarh legislator Prashanta Phukan, Patarkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, Lakhipur legislator Kaushik Rai and MLA of Doomdooma Rupesh Goala — will be administered the oath of office and secrecy as ministers.

“Sanjoy Kisan has tendered his resignation from the cabinet yesterday. Rupesh Goala, who is also from Tinsukia district, will take oath as minister along with Prashanta Phukan, Krishnendu Paul and Kaushik Rai tomorrow. It’s just part of the process,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma said.

The Assam Chief Minister was speaking to the media after calling on union minister Sarbananda Sonowal at the latter’s official residence in New Delhi this morning.
