GUWAHATI, Aug 27: Chandmari Police Saturday arrested suspended BJP Kisan Morcha joint secretary Trishna Sharma whose name had emerged in the suicide case of party leader Indrani Tahbildar and the can of worms emerging thereafter. Trishna had filed a complaint with Chandmari Police accusing Anurag Chaliha of taking Rs 40 lakh from her after promising to provide government jobs to many of her close family members and relatives besides wine shop licenses.
Anurag, it has now been established, was one of the key members of the group comprising Diban Deka, Abhimanyu Das, Rekhanta Das, collecting money in the name of providing jobs from aspirants and then duped them.
Chandmari Police has so far arrested five people, including Diban Deka and Rekhanta Das, while Abhimanyu Das — who had allegedly taken away Anurag Chaliha’s mobile phone by force that ended up with Indrani and Abhimanyu’s intimate photos getting leaked – is still absconding.
Meanwhile, a few other BJP leaders are now under the scanner for allegedly collecting money from job aspirants but could not keep their promise considering the transparent recruitment process of the Himanta Biswa Sarma-led State Government. The name of senior BJP leader from Jorhat Shantanu Pujari, who was a ticket aspirant from the Jorhat assembly constituency in the 2021 hustings, has now come under the scanner amid allegations that he too was part of the bigger group collecting money in the name of providing government jobs.
On the other hand, Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again cleared the air that no cash-for-job scam took place and that the group of BJP leaders, many of whom are now under bars, failed to provide even a single job from the aspirants.
“Although money was taken in the name of providing government jobs, they could not secure a single job using fraudulent means. This has been proved true by the statement made by Ramakanta Deuri, BJP MLA from Morigaon, when he said that under the present government, it’s not possible for an elected represented like him to even provide a fourth grade job to anyone,” CM Sarma said.
