“20,000 Indians Killed in Terrorist Attacks”: India Slams Pakistan at UN

PUBLISHED:

India Slams Pakistan at UN: Tensions between India and Pakistan have risen once again after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, that took place last month. India has now openly criticised Pakistan at the United Nations (UN), calling it the “global epicentre of terror” and blaming it for supporting cross-border terrorism for decades.

India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, P. Harish, did not hold back in his strong and clear statements. His remarks came after Pakistan tried to talk about the Indus Waters Treaty at the UN, even though India had already suspended the agreement following the brutal terror attack in Pahalgam, where 26 lives were lost.

All You Need to Know

  • India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty on April 23, 2025
  • This came a day after 26 people were killed in the Pahalgam terror attack
  • Ambassador P. Harish addressed the UN and slammed Pakistan for terror support
  • Over 20,000 Indians have been killed in terror attacks in the past 40 years
  • India launched “Operation Sindoor” in response to the Pahalgam attack
  • Pakistan’s military retaliated but was pushed back by Indian forces
  • India says the treaty will stay suspended until Pakistan ends terror backing

India’s Strong Message at the UN

Speaking at the UN, Ambassador Harish clearly said that Pakistan cannot pretend to be a victim while it openly supports terrorism. He said that the Indus Waters Treaty, signed in 1960, was based on trust and friendship. But over the years, Pakistan has broken that trust by waging wars and backing terror attacks on Indian soil.

He revealed that terrorists had even attacked India’s infrastructure projects like the Tulbul navigation project in J&K. India had patiently tried to bring changes to the treaty, but Pakistan blocked every attempt.

Over 20,000 Indians Lost to Terror

Ambassador Harish reminded the global community that over 20,000 Indians have died in terror attacks in the last four decades. He stressed that this patience and tolerance shown by India should not be mistaken for weakness.

He also explained that Pakistan uses the cover of “civilians” to protect known terrorists. He said that even during Operation Sindoor, senior Pakistani army, police and political leaders were seen attending funerals of terrorists, including Lashkar-e-Taiba leaders like Hafiz Abdur Rauf, who is already designated as a global terrorist by the United States.

Pakistan Retaliated with Civilian Attacks

In response to Operation Sindoor, Pakistan carried out missile and drone attacks that targeted Indian civilians and religious places like gurudwaras and temples. India called this action grossly hypocritical and dangerous.

Ambassador Harish said clearly, “Let us be clear: Protection of civilians should not serve as an excuse to protect UN-designated terrorists.”

Why the Treaty Was Suspended

India made it clear that it suspended the Indus Waters Treaty not as an act of aggression, but because the situation had changed drastically. There are serious security concerns, modern-day infrastructure challenges, climate change effects, and demographic changes which Pakistan refuses to acknowledge or work with.

India said the treaty will remain on hold until Pakistan stops supporting terrorism in a clear and irreversible way.

India’s strong and clear message at the United Nations shows that it will no longer remain silent on terrorism. The suspension of the Indus Waters Treaty is a direct response to repeated attacks and Pakistan’s refusal to cooperate. As tensions remain high, the world is watching how the two neighbours handle this new chapter. But one thing is clear—India is no longer willing to let terrorism go unanswered on the global stage.
