India records first HMPV case, 8-month-old baby with no travel history tests positive in Bengaluru

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI, Jan 6: India recorded the first case of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) virus with an eight-month-old baby testing positive in Bengaluru for the HMPV.

The child, reports said, does not have any travel history and it’s not clear whether the baby has the same strain of HMPV that is behind the spike in China.

The Health Ministry, meanwhile, has said that India is fully prepared to manage respiratory illnesses with surveillance mechanisms.

“We will continue to monitor the situation closely and validate information and developments accordingly,” a senior official from the health ministry was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.
