India left fuming after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia’s controversial comments on ‘India’s Got Latent’

GUWAHATI, Feb 10: Mumbai Police have begun investigations against popular podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia after his controversial and unparliamentary comments at the ‘India’s Got Latent’ show hosted by YouTuber Samay Raina led to a nationwide outrage, more particularly among netizens.

Ranveer Allahbadia, also known as BeerBiceps, was attending Raina’s show that had also brought together guest judges YouTuber Ashish Chanchlani, comedian Jaspreet Singh and content creator Apoorva Mukhija where he made the shocking comments.

After a formal complaint was filed against Allahbadia, Mumbai Police acted against the offensive comments and visited the studio in Mumbai’s Khar where the show was shot.

The complainant also demanded strict legal action against the accused.

“I have come to know about it. Things have been said and presented in a wrong way,” Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, while reacting to the issue.

Journalist and storyteller Neelesh Mishra also took offense to the comments.

“Meet the perverted creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy. I am sure each one has a following of millions.
This content is not designated as adult content — it can be seen with ease even by a child if the algorithm takes him or her there. The creators or the platform have zero sense of responsibility.
I am also not surprised at all that four people at the desk — and lots in the audience — celebrated this and had a great laugh.
You, the audience, normalised and celebrated this and people like these.
Decency is not incentivised in India — by platforms or audiences — and creators are stooping lower and lower for audience reach and revenue. Banal, crass, insensitive are words only for boring uncool people. These creators can say anything in the name of freedom of speech and get away with it.
Again, meet the creators who are shaping our country’s creative economy,” he wrote on ‘X’.

Ranveer Allahbadia, meanwhile, posted an apology saying “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry”.
