IND vs SA 1st ODI: Bumrah Strikes Early After South Africa Elect To Bat

Guwahati:  South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and opted to bat against India in the first One-day International.

Bumrah strikes and a poor shot by Malan, whose feet stay glued to the crease. India gets the early breakthrough. Janneman Malan is gone for 6 off 10 balls. (South Africa: 23/1 in 5 Overs)

India handed debut to all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. Left-arm pacer Marco Jansen, who excelled in the Test series, made his debut for South Africa.

The mighty Virat Kohli’s presence in the Indian playing eleven as a mere player for the first time in seven years will be keenly followed while his potential successor in red-ball cricket, K L Rahul, will be judged for his captaincy in the three-match ODI series against South Africa. Whether he is batting in the middle or fielding at the boundary line, Kohli’s every move is tracked but some of that attention will now have to be shared by Rahul.
