In major crackdown on drugs, Assam Rifles seizes heroin worth over Rs 36.5 crore, apprehends three peddlers

GUWAHATI, Jan 26: The Assam Rifles launched a major crackdown on drugs and psychotropic substances in Mizoram and, in three separate operations carried out jointly — two with the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics department and the third with Mizoram Police — seized heroine No 4 worth over Rs 36.5 crore.

Three peddlers were also taken into custody during two of the three operations.

In the first operation, Assam Rifles along with the Excise and Narcotics Department (Champhai) recovered 5.07 kg Heroin No 4 from General Area Chhungte in Champhai district of Mizoram and apprehended two persons.

The value of the seized drugs is estimated to be around Rs 35.51 crore in the international market.

In the second operation, Assam Rifles along with the anti-narcotics squad of Aizawl Excise & Narcotics cell seized 36 grams of Heroin No 4 worth Rs 25.20 lakh from General Area Sihphhir Neihbawih, Near Dumping Ground, Aizawl district, Mizoram.

One person was also apprehended along with the seized drugs.

In the third seizure, Assam Rifles and Mizoram Police recovered 108 grams of Heroin No 4 worth Rs 75.60 lakh from General Area Zokhawthar in Champhai district of Mizoram.

All the three seizures were made on Friday (Jan 24), Assam Rifles stated in a post on ‘X’, formerly Twitter, today.

It may be mentioned here that heroin No 4 is a highly purified form of heroin traditionally stemming from Southeast Asia and having the highest water solubility.
