Guwahati: In the past four years, the Public Works Department (PWD), Assam, has brought tremendous progress and transformation in the state. This was stated by Assam PWD minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Attending a Seminar Cum Exhibition on Modern Technologies & Construction Materials with Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal here in the city the PWD minister also said that the department should not be allowed to be run by the contractors.

The exhibition is being organized by the PWD and NH Department, Government of Assam.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister, Sarbananda Sonowal said that Assam has to compete with other states when it comes to building roads and highways. Sonowal also stressed on quality work by the PWD contractors.

“I request the PWD minister to set up a contractors skill development centre. This will help the young and upcoming contractors understand the skills required to serve their responsibility towards the society. To gain those skills, I strongly believe that a centre is essential. We feel that each contractor can come forward in building the nation. Tata is a good example of how society can be served with quality work,” said Sarbananda Sonowal.

“New materials used in construction of buildings and roads can be seen here in this exhibition. Many stalls have showcased new technology. I believe, this exhibition will no doubt benefit the department but will also help the common public who are thinking about constructing new homes. They will get to know about the latest technology here in the exhibition. They can check the new materials demonstrated here and may find better options,” said Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
