IMD warns of heavy rainfall in Guwahati: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy rainfall in Guwahati in the next 2-3 days, a release issued by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) stated.
The IMD has also warned of thunderstorm with lightning and gusty wind with wind speed of 40-50 kmph is very likely in the city in the coming days which may aggravate water logging, slow vehicular
movement, and increase the risk of localized landslides in vulnerable pockets, ASDMA also stated in the statement.
Authorities, the Assam State Disaster Management Authority stated, are closely monitoring the situation and emergency response systems are being kept on alert.
The ASDMA also requested people of Guwahati to take all necessary precautions and remain vigilant and asked daily commuters and long-distance travellers to plan their routines accordingly, and to avoid unnecessary movement during periods of intense rainfall.
Residents in low-lying and hillside areas have also been asked to stay alert for any signs of flooding or land slides and to stay tuned to official weather updates and follow advisories issued by local authorities to ensure safety during this prolonged spell of rain.
The status of the situation would be updated by ASDMA from time to time for general awareness, the release concluded.
