IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati: Heavy rainfall alert has been issued for Assam, Meghalaya and  Arunachal Pradesh from September 21-23, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.

Sathi Devi, head of the IMD’s national weather forecasting centre said that a low-pressure area is very likely over Northeast Bay of Bengal by September 20.

It is likely to become more marked over Northwest Bay of Bengal during the subsequent 24 hours.

The IMD said rainfall is likely at most places, with heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places. A few isolated will also receive extremely heavy falls, it added.

Strengthening of lower-level winds and its convergence along the west coast is also likely to continue during the next 3-4 days.

According to a report of RMC, New Delhi, it said, “Isolated extremely heavy falls also likely over Arunachal Pradesh and Assam & Meghalaya on 22nd and over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim on 22nd & 23rd September 2020.”
