IMD issues fresh weather alert: Thunderstorm, lightning in Assam, Arunachal and Meghalaya to continue

Guwahati: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a weather alert for north-eastern states in the coming days.

As per the notification, IMD has predicted that rains and thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to continue in the region over the coming days.

Isolated heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, and Meghalaya is very likely to occur over the next few days.

Fairly widespread/widespread rainfall with thunderstorm/lightning/gusty winds (speed reaching 40-50 kph) very likely over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam-Meghalaya, and scattered/fairly widespread rainfall over Nagaland-Manipur-Mizoram-Tripura & Sub-Himalayan West Bengal-Sikkim during next 5 days.

Besides, lightning and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kph have been predicted at isolated places over Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura.

Meanwhile, heavy rains and storms continue to batter several parts of the Northeastern states in the past few days. Storms have caused damage to life and property in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, etc.  

 It was only yesterday that the Himalayan state of Sikkim was hit by a storm, causing damage to property and loss of lives.

As many as 5 houses were badly damaged as heavy rains and storms lashed through Mabong village in the state’s Soreng district.
