“I’m done…”: Virat Kohli tells BCCI he wants to retire from Tests, the cricket board wants him to continue

Virat Kohli had reportedly been contemplating to retire from Test cricket after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy

Virat Kohli has reportedly told the BCCI that he wants to retire from Test cricket, media reports have stated, although the cricket board has asked him to reconsider his decision and continue playing.

Kohli’s decison to quit red-ball cricket comes days after Rohit Sharma announced he was hanging his boots from the longest format of the game but will continue playing ODIs.

Kohli’s decision puts BCCI in a spot of bother as they are to meet in a few days to pick up a team for the upcoming tour to England next month.

Virat Kohli had dropped hints on his retirement during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy where he struggled to find form after scoring a century in the first Test of the five-match series at Perth.

BCCI also has another mammoth task on their hands as they will also need to select a new Test captain although reports had said that Kohli had expressed his desire to lead India as a stop-gap arrangement until a full-fledged leader is groomed to take over as regular captain.

The BCCI top brass and head coach Gautam Gambhir were, however, against any such arrangement and were in favour of a youngster to take over as new skipper.
