Moni Madhab Mahanta, AASU vice-president who quit the students’ body recently, formally joined the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP). Moni Madhab, who is the younger brother of AGP working president Keshab Mahanta, will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Kaliabor constituency.
He joined the AGP at the party headquarters Ambari in the presence of party president Atul Bora and other senior leaders.
When asked as to what would his strategy and how he plans to take on sitting MP Gaurav Gogoi, Moni Madhab Mahanta said people are unhappy with the Congress MP for failing to fulfill the promises he had made during the last elections.
“He is best known for coming up with definitions of fish and did practically nothing for the constituency and its people. People of Kaliabor have made up their minds to defeat Gaurav Gogoi this time,” he said.
“I’m not a fish that lives in an aquarium, I am a fish that swims around in the khaals and beels of Kaliabor,” he added.
