Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed concern over incidents of illegal cattle slaughter in the State during Eid-ul-Zuha yesterday
Illegal cattle slaughter on Eid: 16 arrested in Assam ~ Sixteen people have been arrested in Cachar and Sribhumi districts of Assam in connection with illegal cattle slaughter on Eid-ul-Zuha, Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma stated in a post on ‘X’ while warning of strict action against those also involved in dumping of cattle parts in public places.
Chief Minister Dr Sarma said while “our Constitution guarantees the right to religious freedom, it equally upholds the rule of law and public order” and that his government is “committed to preserving communal harmony, but not at the cost of lawlessness or cruelty”.
He also stated in his post that five cases of dumping of cattle parts have been reported in Assam, including near Cotton Universit, Dhubri, Hojai, and at Bagargool in Sribhumi district while five illegal slaughter sites – 3 in Cachar (Gumrah, Silchar, Lakhipur) and 2 in Karimganj (Badarpur, Banga) – were also uncovered.
“Strict action will be taken against all violators — irrespective of faith or background,” Chief Minister Dr Sarma further warned.
