Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma Sunday warned corrupt Government officials, asking all employees to refrain from seeking bribes from people to get their work done and issues solved.

Chief minister Sarma’s warning came during a meeting he held with Block Development Officers (BDOs) in Guwahati where he also announced about the launch of a helpline for people to register complaints against officers seeking bribes.

“Let this come as a warning to government officials who seek bribes from people coming to government offices to get their issues resolved that I will pounce on such officials like a tiger,” CM Sarma said.

“I will soon launch a helpline where people can register complaints against officials who seek bribes and favours from people. The complaints will come to me and I will personally look into them,” he added.

Officials will have to change from now on, he said, claiming that he will also look into reports of certain officials preferring to work in areas dominated by ‘Miya’ Muslims.

” Some officers who particularly like to be posted at areas like Lahorighat and other areas which are dominated by Miya Muslims. I am particularly going to look into these officers: how they have been working and other aspects such as how much assets they have amassed after their employment with the government. I will generate a list of engineers, BDOs and other officials who want to be posted in Miya dominated areas. They have particularly been in my radar for a long time. Assam will have to change and officers will need to perform,” CM Sarma said.

“I will meet with the BDOs after every six months and will ensure that 100 per cent funds earmarked and allocated are spent,” he further said.
