In a moment of relief for villagers in Arunachal Pradesh’s Kamle district, the Indian Air Force (IAF) on Thursday successfully disposed of two live bombs that had been lying in Rigyu village since May. These bombs were discovered on 26 May 2025, just a few kilometres away from the IAF Dolum firing range, causing weeks of anxiety among local residents.
After the shocking discovery, the area was immediately sealed off by the local administration and police to ensure the safety of people living nearby. The villagers were living under fear, not knowing when the bombs would be removed. On Thursday, that fear was finally put to rest.
A special IAF team carried out the disposal operation between 10:30 am and 12 noon. The task was done under the watchful supervision of Dollungmukh Sub-Divisional Officer Nabam Tarang, with the support of police from the Dollungmukh Police Station. Every safety measure was followed strictly to avoid any danger during the operation.
The successful disposal of the bombs has brought much-needed peace and comfort to the residents of Rigyu village. People can now go about their daily lives without the looming worry of an explosive threat nearby.
This incident also highlights the strong teamwork between civil authorities and the defence forces. It is a perfect example of how quick action and coordination can prevent disasters and protect lives.
The local administration and the IAF deserve appreciation for handling the situation with care and professionalism. Villagers, too, played a key role by cooperating throughout the process and remaining patient despite the risks.
