GUWAHATI: Congress candidate for Jalukbari seat Ramen Borthakur said he would get 90 thousand votes to defeat Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma.
“We can win with 81 thousand votes. But I am hopeful I will get 90 thousand votes. Himanta Biswa Sarma will be defeated definitely,” said Borthakur.
In 2016, senior BJP leader and NEDA convenor Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed landslide victory in Jalukbari with a margin of 85,935 votes. While Dr. Sarma netted 118,390 votes, Congress candidate Niren Deka got 32,455 votes.
Himanta Biswa Sarma has been representing the Jalukbari seat since 2001.
