Guwahati: Amid all the speculations as who is going to be the candidate for the third Rajya Sabha seat in Assam, Congress and AIDUF are on the verge of stitching their first alliance and project a name.
Former Assam Chief Minister and veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi has gone one step ahead and stated that he is in very good terms with AIUDF chief Badruddin Ajmal. Gogoi told media persons that there is nothing to hide about the political relationship between Congress and AIUDF. “I am not afraid of anyone. Long back, I was against AIDUF and I was open about that. And today, when I want to form an alliance, I am open about that, too. When I love someone I openly express it. I don’t hide my love from anyone. You can say that, I am in love with Badruddin Ajmal or better we both are in love with each other,” said the veteran Congress leader.
“I am quite confident that we will have an understanding. Today, the leaders of the respective parties have met and I am 100 percent sure that we will definitely come to an understanding and nominate a common candidate. The decision is still to be taken whether we will form an alliance or not. Ajmal is willing to form an alliance. The candidate should be an Anti-CAA supporter and should be a secular one,” said Tarun Gogoi.
The Rajya Sabha election in Assam will be held on March 26, 2020.
