Sprint queen Hima Das has become a household name not just in Assam but along the length and breadth of the country after her heroics in the athletics track. The star sprinter from Kandhulimari village near Dhing in Nagaon district of Assam won accolades after she won a historic gold in the 400 metres at the IAAF World Under-20 Athletics Championships in Tampere, Finland in July followed by a gold and two silver medals in the recently concluded Asian Games at Jakarta.
However, a video of Hima where she is seen playing the traditional Assamese folk instruments — Nagara and the Taal — with absolute precision has taken the internet by storm. The ace sprinter is seen playing the two instruments and also singing the ‘Hari Naam’ hymn while people behind are seen clapping and enjoying.
The video does not appear to be an old one considering the fact that Hima had been home a week ago. Hima had arrived in Assam on Sep 7 to a rousing reception and was felicitated by the Assam Government. Besides being handed a cash reward of Rs 1.6 crore for her award-winning exploits on the tracks at Tampere and Jakarta, she was also named the Brand Ambassador of Assam Sports by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal.
