NEDA convener and Assam Finance, Health and PWD Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s election rallies and road shows (padyatras) have turned out to be massive crowd pullers with thousands of people joining him as the star campaigner canvassed for candidates of the BJP and its alliance partners (AGP’s Moni Madhab Mahanta in the first phase).
After a massive turnout at Sivasagar yesterday (April 8) evening, Himanta Biswa Sarma took out another ‘Padyatra’ in Biswanath, walking a distance of around four kilometres as he drummed up support for BJP’s Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency candidate Pallab Lochan Das.
Pallab Lochan, presently MLA of Rangapara and a minister of State in the Sarbananda Sonowal government, also accompanied Sarma along with MoS (Health) Pijush Hazarika and several other party leaders.
Earlier on Monday evening, Himanta Biswa Sarma undertook a 13-kilometre-long ‘Padyatra’ in Sivasagar where he was joined by thousands of people.
The NEDA chairman was canvassing for BJP candidate Topon Kumar Gogoi who has been fielded by the party from Jorhat Lok Sabha constituency.
Jorhat, it is assumed, will witness a direct fight between Topon Gogoi and Congress’ Sushanta Borgohain.
Sarma had earlier taken part in road shows and ‘Padyatras’ in Jorhat, Dibrugarh and Tezpur towns.
