Himanta Biswa Sarma to present State Budget today, high expectations among people

GUWAHATI: Assam finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma will present Assam Budget 2020-21 at assembly today at 2 PM. The budget which has already created much speculation and anticipation among the people of the state will be the first full-fledged budget before Assam assembly elections in 2021.

“All these years your unwavering support and affection have strengthened me. In our last 4 budgets of Assam Government, we have always addressed aspirations of all class, and especially the undeserved and underprivileged,” minister Sarma tweeted.

He also mentioned that this budget would be no different from the previous four budgets in terms of addressing the aspirations of the people. 

“State Cabinet will discuss state budget at 1pm only and taxation proposals will be decided only in that meeting,” minister Sarma stated.

On the other hand, people from various sections of the society have expressed their high expectations from the budget.

“I hope this budget will be welfare oriented. Government should take initiative to solve the issue of unemployment and revamp small and medium scale industries in the state,” said Moromi Borthakur who teaches Economics at Biswanath College.

“I request finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma to control price hike of essential commodities. It will be a great help for the house makers as well as their families,” said a woman from Kaziranga.
