GUWAHATI: In the run-up to Bodoland Territoria Council (BTC) elections, Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took part at a Padyatra at Thuibari, Bijni in Chirang district on Sunday. Sarma was accompanied by BJP national general secretary Dilip Saikia.
Earlier, Dr. Sarma addressed a mega election rally in the 13 No. Chirang (Subaijhar) constituency.
“The impressive turnout of our friends today at Public Meeting in 13 No Chirang (Subaijhar) is heartening! It’s a reflection of your valued trust in the vision of
. Please keep supporting and vote for #BJP,” Dr. Sarma tweeted.
The minister also adddressed rally in the Manas Serfang constituency.

In both the meetings, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took on Hagrama Mohilary-led Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
“For the last 17 years, the residents of the BTC areas did not see development. They were deprived,” Dr. Sarma said.
“The BJP has promised that the rights of the sale and purchase of land in the BTC areas will be provided,” he added.
The campaign for the first phase of BTC elections already ended on Saturday. Udalguri and Baksa district will vote on December 7. Total 132 candidates are in the fray for the first phase of polling.
The votes will be counted on December 12.
A total of 23,82,036 voters, including 11,79,020 women, will exercise their franchise in the two phases of the polls to the local council, which was formed in 2003 and elections are being held since 2005.
The election to the 40-member BTC was scheduled on April 4, but it was postponed due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Subsequently, Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi assumed administration of the council on the expiry of its five-year term on April 27, 2020.
