GUWAHATI: Assam education and finance minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday laid the foundation stone of several Model High Schools in Biswanath and Rangapara constituencies.
Dr. Sarma first visited Sakomatha Tea Garden and initiated the dawn of a new era as he laid the foundation stone of the Model High School in the garden. The Assam government has aimed to set up 119 Model High Schools in the tea garden areas of the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Sarma said that the Model High Schools would play a pivotal role in improving the educational scenario of the tea gardens.
“Not a single student from tea gardens should be deprived of higher education,” he said.
The minister also stated that construction of the schools would be completed by May next year.
Later, minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma also visited Pratapgarh, Tezpur Ghagra, Rupajuli and Thakurbari tea gardens and laid the foundation stone of the schools.
