GUWAHATI: North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) convenor and Assam health, finance and education minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma took a dig at All India United Democratic Front (AIUDf) chief Maulana Badruddin Ajmal for using the Arabic language at a public meeting.
“At the meeting of Badruddin Ajmal, Arabic has been used. But not a single leading intellectual protested against it,” Dr. Sarma said.
“Some people have surrendered to the Arabic language. They don’t like using Assamese, Bodo or Bengali,” said Dr. Sarma at a meeting in Guwahati on Friday.
He also stated that though many people raise their voice when there is a mismatch in textbook distribution on the basis of mediums, but they have remained silent in the case of Ajmal.
“We print textbooks in three languages. Sometimes, Assamese speaking areas receive Bodo textbooks. Sometimes, they receive Bengali textbooks. It becomes a big issue. We acknowledge the mistake immediately. But not a single intellectual is protesting against Ajmal using the Arabic at his meeting,” Sarma stated.
It may be noted that Arabic was used in a poster of a meeting in Goalpara that was addressed by Maulana Badruddin Ajmal.
