Hima disqualified after false start in 200m semi-final

Ace sprinter Hima Das bowed out of the semi-finals of the women’s 200 metres race at the 18th Asian Games after she was disqualified following a false start in the second-final.

Hima had earlier in the morning qualified for the semi-finals by virtue of superior timing despite finishing fourth in the second heat. Hima had clocked 23.47 seconds, the overall seventh fastest timing, in the heats.

Meanwhile, Dutee Chand stormed into the final of the event after she won the first semi-final with a timing of 23:00 seconds. Dutee had bettered the 23.37 seconds she took in the heats to qualify for the semi-final.

Hima Das will compete in two more events — the women’s 4×400 m relay and 4×400 mixed relay — at the ongoing Asiad.
