Assam sprint queen Hima Das has been named the first Youth Ambassador of UNICEF India. This was announced on the official Twitter handle of UNICEF India.

The ace sprinting sensation said was honoured to be chosen as youth ambassador and further said she hoped to inspire more children to follow their dreams.

Hima, also known as Dhing Express and Assam Express, had become the first Indian athlete to win a track gold in the IAAF Under-20 World Athletics at Tampere in Finland earlier this year besides winning two gold medals in the Women’s 4 x 400 metres and the mixed 4 x 400 metres and a silver in the Women’s 400 metres dash in the Asian Games in Indonesia.

Hima Das was also awarded the Arjuna award following her heroics in the tracks in Finland and Indonesia. She was also named the sports ambassador of Assam by chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and the State government.
