GUWAHATI: A hidden tunnel was discovered in Karimganj under Nilambazar Police Station in the Indo-Bangladesh bordering area of Assam.
According to sources, the tunnel was mainly used by infiltrators and smugglers for various illegal activities including cattle smuggling.
The tunnel was discovered after cattle smuggler Alimuddin’s confession. Alimuddin was arrested by Assam Police on December 27.
“An FIR was lodged at Nilambazar Police Station that a person has been abducted and taken to Bangladesh. we started investigating the case and while following the terrain we discovered this hidden tunnel. We have taken up the matter with the Border Security Force and an investigation is underway,” said an Assam Police personnel.
