Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal are said to be returning to reprise their roles from the first two Hera Pheri films as production on the franchise’s third installment has reportedly begun on Tuesday. The film’s rumored director is Farhad Samji.
Kartik Aaryan’s name has been bandied around as a possible new face to lead the brand. Social media users have been effusive in praising the original trio’s reunion.
In 2000, the first film in the series was released.
Gulshan Grover, Om Puri, and Tabu also had roles in the legendary comedy. Hera Pheri is a Priyadarshan film with a script by Neera Vora.
Ramji Rao Speaking (2001) (made initially in Malayalam) was remade into this Hindi film (1989). For the 2006 follow-up, Phir Hera Pheri, the original cast members Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Khanna all reprised their roles.
Although writer Neeraj directed it, the third film lingered for years after his unexpected death in 2017. ETimes said that shooting on the film began Tuesday in Mumbai with Akshay, Suniel, and Paresh.
In the previous November, Akshay had stated that he would not join Hera Pheri 3. Suniel Shetty, another one of the stars, had also promised to do everything he could to help him return.
As per a source in a Hindustan Times report, “The stars are back, and they shot for an announcement promo for Hera Pheri 3. It confirms that the original trio of Akshay Kumar, Sunil Shetty and Paresh Rawal are back. The promo will also restate all speculations about other actors being cast in the film. The film’s script is underway and the shoot for the film will begin much later.”
The source also confirmed Farhad Samji will be directing the film. He added, “The makers will be releasing the promo, so that the fans understand that Hera Pheri 3 is happening with the original cast,”
