The Indian Meteorological Department has issued an alert, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorm and squall and gusty winds in Assam along with various other parts of the country in the next four days. The alert comes a day after more than 125 people were killed in dust storms in Rajasthan and thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in Uttar Pradesh.

The Met Department has warned heavy rains are likely to lash Assam and the rest of the Northeast that could also be accompanied by thunderstorm and squalls and gusty winds.
“Thunderstorm accompanied with squall is very likely at isolated places over Assam & Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram & Tripura and West Bengal,” the Met department stated in an alert issued for today (Friday), adding that similar weather conditions are likely at isolated places in Assam and other Northeastern States tomorrow.

On the other hand, heavy to very heavy rains are likely at isolated places in south Assam & Meghalaya on Sunday and Monday, the Met Department further warned.
Meanwhile, minutes after the warning was issued by weathermen, a storm lashed various places in Lakhimpur district that brought down trees and electric poles Friday afternoon.
