PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: With more rainfall expected throughout Assam, the water level in Brahmaputra is increasing every passing hour. Like other parts of Assam that have been inundated by overflowing water, residents of Guwahati living near the river banks at Fancy Bazar and nearby areas are concerned about flooding.

According to the data collected by Central Water Commission officials, river Brahmaputra in Guwahati is flowing at 1.24 metre above the danger level. The danger level is marked at 49.68 metre in Guwahati.  The Central Water Commission officials in Guwahati took readings in Fancy Bazar on Monday afternoon that showed 50.92 metres, which is 1.24 metres above the danger mark.

This gradual increase in water level might lead to flooding of the immediate areas located right next to the river banks in Guwahati. There is a sense of alarm as officials take an hourly update of the water levels here in Guwahati.
