Police are on the hunt for the ULFA cadre who had lobbed the grenade towards a posse of securitymen checking vehicles at the busy RG Baruah Road Wednesday night (May 15) in which at least 12 people, including two SSB jawans, were injured.
Bijoy Asom, the ULFA (Independent) militant who lobbed the grenade and then fled the spot in Jahnabi Saikia’s Scooty, is still on the run with police launching a massive hunt to arrest him.
Police, meanwhile, have so far arrested five persons — including TV actress Jahnabi Saikia and pro-talks ULFA leader Pranamoy Rajguru of Sivasagar.
Incidentally, Nagaon Police arrested another person for his alleged involvement in the crime. Indra Mohan Bora of Puranigudam in Nagaon, an ULFA(I) cadre who was in touch with Pranamoy Rajguru and other leaders of the rebel outfit, was arrested by Nagaon Police Friday night and later handed over to Guwahati City Police.
On the other hand, Golaghat Police arrested Amrit Ballav Goswami, a former militant leader of the outlawed outfit, for his alleged involvement in the blast. Goswami is accused of imparting training in bomb making to new ULFA (I) recruitees.
Guwahati Police also arrested another youth named Chinmoy Lahkar from Guwahati. Chinmoy, police sources said, took ULFA cadre Bijoy Asom from Ganeshguri to Khanapara from where the alleged bomber is learn to have taken a bus to some unknown destination.
