GUWAHATI: A team of the Assam Transport Department conducted drives against Assam State Transport Corporation (ASTC) buses plying in Guwahati on Thursday.
In the crackdown against the ASTC buses, many violations of traffic rules and regulations were found by the Transport Department officials.
The team found that many ASTC city buses crew members do not wear uniform and do not provide tickets to their passengers.
The crackdown came after Gauhati High Court criticised State Transport Department for traffic mismanagement in Guwahati. The court asked the department to submit report regarding the actions taken to solve the problems of traffic congestion in the city.
Following that, 15 flying squads were formed to check unruly ASTC city buses.
