Guwahati stabbing death update: An illicit affair that went horribly wrong…

GUWAHATI, Dec 26: An illicit love story that went horribly wrong leading to the chilling stabbing incident that rocked Guwahati today and shocked people across Assam. Bhupen Das, the jilted lover and a cab driver by profession, stabbed a young woman named Mousumi Gogoi to death after she began avoiding him after realising that he was already married and had two children.

Despite their recent animosity, the two were, police said, romantically inclined to each other for nearly two years.

Bhupen had stabbed Mousumi, mother of a 10-year-old girl and hailing from Tinkhong in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, at a busy street at Naharani Path in the city’s Dispur Last Gate locality and then attempted suicide.

While Mousumi, who was bleeding profusely as a result of sharp injuries suffered in her stomach, neck and hands, was declared dead by doctors at GMCH, Bhupen is undergoing treatment at GMCH after his failed suicide bid.

It has also been learnt that Mousumi’s husband had died around two years ago while she was working in Guwahati since the past four years and was associated with an NGO.

The deceased woman’s 10-year-old daughter stayed with her (Mousumi’s) mother.

Mousumi had reportedly filed a complaint against Bhupen at Pan Bazaar Women Police Station on the basis of which a case was registered against him.

He was due to have produced himself before police for questioning today in connection with the case.
