Guwahati roads witness less traffic

PUBLISHED:

GUWAHATI: The busy streets of Guwahati wore a quiet look on Sunday. Though the city has been limping back to normal life during Unlock, limited vehicular movement was seen on Sunday.

Guwahati witnessed solar eclipse as well as downpour since morning. Departing from normal hustle-bustle, many busy streets embraced silence on Sunday.

The solar eclipse and heavy rainfall compelled most of the residents to remain at home. Earlier, many people braved COVID-19 and ventured out to the streets despite the government’s repeated appeal to maintain social distancing.

Today, 73 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected in Guwahati. Several cases with no travel history have been reported in the city.

However, gatherings were seen in many market places with no regard to social distancing.

“The solar eclipse and the heavy shower were like blessings in disguise. Earlier we noticed many people roaming unnecessarily without caring much about the precautions for COVID-19. But the eclipse and rain have forced them to remain at home,” said Bhrigu Chakravarty, a resident of the city.
