Guwahati residents buy essentials before lockdown

GUWAHATI: After the lockdown announcement by Assam health minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday residents thronged market places, stocking up on milk, vegetables and other essential daily items.

Residents were seen queuing up outside grocery stores, ATMs and medical shops including liquor shops.
Cars were seen lined up at petrol pumps in the fear of shutdown for the upcoming days.

Along with Guwahati, people across Assam were seen buying essential items before the Tuesday lockdown.

Authorities have taken all the necessary steps possible, including cancellation of interstate transport services, railway services and flights to stop the spread of Coronavirus disease.

Meanwhile, the Assam government has ordered lockdown in the state. The lockdown will begin from 6 PM, 24 March till 31 March.
