Guwahati Rains ~ Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the situation in the State should start improving from Sunday

Guwahati Rains ~ Special CL for Govt employees of Kamrup, Kamrup (Metro) districts on Saturday, educational institutions to also remain closed, announces Assam CM: Assam Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma today (May 30) announced that inclement weather conditions will continue in Assam till tomorrow and hence the government has announced a special casual leave for State government employees of Kamrup and Kamrup (Metro) tomorrow (May 31) and that all educational institutions in the two districts will remain closed tomorrow.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma said a red alert has been sounded in Assam for today and tomorrow and the situation is expected to get somewhat better although many areas will still experience rainfall for a couple of days.

Chief Minister Dr Sarma said the present weather condition in Assam has been because of a low pressure in Bangladesh and incessant rainfall in Meghalaya has compounded matters with water from the hills of the neighbouring State flowing into the city and inundating several areas.

Reiterating that the government and the district administration is taking all-possible measures to ameliorate the sufferings of the people, Chief Minister Dr Sarma asked people not to venture out of their homes in Guwahati and areas experiencing hostile weather conditions tomorrow unless it is absolutely necessary to do so.

He also said that the government has been alerting people since May 22 about the possibility of heavy rainfall in Guwahati and other areas in these two days.
